I was born in Stockholm, Sweden on August 29, 1915.
My mother, Friedel Adler Bergman, died when I was three years old, and my father, Justus Samuel Bergman, raised me until I was twelve, when he died.
I turned to acting as a teenager, and my first speaking role in a film came in Swedish director Gustaf Molander’s Munkbrogreven in 1935, in which I played the maid of a hotel that sold illegal liquor.
In 1936, I turned to Hollywood- a decision that would change my life. I have earned three Oscars, two Emmys and a Tony Award throughout the course of my career. I married Swedish dentist and later neurosurgeon Petter Lindstrom in 1937, and gave birth to a daughter, Friedel Pia, in 1938.
One of my most memorable and world-renowned performances was in the film Casablanca in 1942 with Humphrey Bogart and several other brilliant actors.
